The aquamarine is the stone which makes itself loved as we can love the ocean.
The aquamarine is poem. Is sky which becomes sea. And is sea which becomes sky.
A sea without bounds at the horizon, with the soundings within reach - you see them, they are there, and there you can walk comfortably - and with the water transparent, so transparent that it seems to you made by a impalpable pale blue, aerial and liquid at the same time, which incorporates the infinite inside it.
That water is very clear, and yet it is endowed with a potent and profound colour. You do not see the end. The look approaches, it dives across the surface, and starts to swim through all its internal molecules at the research of that luminous horizon which we see always and reach never.
Confidence, sympathy, harmony and friendship. And a great serenity, that serenity which the sea presents you when you repose yourself on a dry rock or on the soft sand, at the light warmth of the sun.
This the aquamarines transmit. And their name, deriving from the Latin, expresses directly and all over the world these concepts.
Fiducia, simpatia, armonia e amicizia.
From the ancient Nautical Lapidary:
the aquamarine is useful to "make the tempests and the most violent sea wawes stop". Especially if we engrave on it the Poseidon figure, and if we immerse it in the water of the sea.
The legend wants also this stone, thrown on the sea shore by a siren in a casket full of jewels, to present health, sight, success and love, and to help the thought and the meditation.
Inside the aquamarines we can lose ourselves at the research of the light.
Clear and pure, presents the most free creative possibilities to the gem designers.
The aquamarines belong to the berylliums family, as for example the emeralds.
In comparison to the emerald the aquamarine has colour more uniform and more frequently deprived of inclusions. Besides we find it more often on the Earth.
The aquamarine hardness is good (Mohs 7-8) and the brightness magnificent.
It is a gem rather robust and protected from the splinterings; it can however sometimes fracture like all the berylliums.
It is the iron which creates the aquamarine colour. It can go from the almost colourless pale blue to a blue as luminous as the sea; the value increases with the colour intensity.
Some aquamarines present a characteristic pale green shade. The typical aquamarine colour remains however the really clear and immaculate pale blue.
Every shade is baptized with a name; examples are "Santa Maria", "Espirito Santo", "Martha Rocha".
The Brazil is the most important aquamarine furnisher.
A famous crystal has been found of 110kg; the greates aquamarine ever cutted is of 26 kg.
Other great production zones are around Nigeria, Madagascar, Pakistan.
The aquamarine is maybe the gem preferred by the designers.
Besides the classical cuts, the clear colour permits a peerless creative freedom. So we obtain the most valuable pure forms, or particular special effects which emphasize internal inclusions.
Each aquamarine with its own and distinct lines becomes an unique, unmistakable original.
